Elder Training

Aging presents unique challenges for training: Mobility decreases, muscles weaken, and the mind-body connection can worsen. Despite these circumstances, our elders deserve to live their golden years with agency and grace.

I take pride in creating training programs for the elderly that restore mobility, reduce the risk of injury, and improve mental clarity. Here I am pictured with my 90 year-old grandmother at my high school graduation, whom I helped care for and lived with throughout my childhood.

FAQs

Isn’t exercise risky for older people?

Yes, in a lot of the same ways it’s risky for everyone else! The difference is that elders struggle to recover from even minor injury in the same ways. For this reason, my physical training for elders consists of restoring and maintaining the movement patterns necessary for daily life. These include sitting up or down, walking safely in all dimensions and directions, and picking up a full bag of groceries.

Do we have to come to your location?

No! I can train at a location of your choice in Seattle. Please let me know the location, any equipment available, and other key details during our consultation.

I have some physical limitations. Can I still train with you?

Yes! Training can be regressed to breathing and basic movement, such as raising an arm or turning a head. Training can also incorporate mental acuity games, conversational instruction, and human connection if movement is limited. I believe wholeheartedly training can benefit everyone, and if you are curious how it could benefit you or a loved one, please reach out below.

Is this the only option for older people?

No! Family-style training can accommodate elders and was created in the hope that parents would train with not just their children but also their own parents. Dependent on ability, some elders could also benefit from Readiness classes.
